WOMEN MUST COME FORWARD FOR AVAILING THEIR RIGHTS UNDER THIS ACT

In order to apprise the women workforce about the various provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women work place (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013, the Water Supply and Sanitation department today organized a Workshop & Awareness Program at their camp office cum rest house.

All Women staff of department of Water Supply & Sanitation participated in this workshop. In her key note address, Prof. Pushpinder Kaur Kajla from KCL Institute of Law (LLM) called upon the women to identify their rights as per this Act. She said that the primary objective of his Act was to ensure equality for women at the workplace besides making them feel safe and secure. Prof. Kajla said that the women must come forward for availing their rights under this Act.

Prof. Kajla said that the feudal mindset of a male dominated society was a serious threat to the security of women at the work places. She said that epitaphs like natural human behavior of male or harmless flirtation often used to define the tendency of men to exploit women staff needs to be dealt severely, for which this law could help immensely. She said that Indian Constitution envisages equal rights and opportunities for men and women so living with dignity and pride was the basic fundamental right of every women.

Prof. Kajla laid emphasis on the need to overcome social stigma to fight against any atrocity on women. She said that men and women were equal partners in progress of society. She said that though officially there was only 14.7% women workforce in urban areas and 25.3% in rural areas but unofficially this figure crosses 85% of the work force.

Earlier, welcoming the delegates Executive Engineer Mr. KS Saini lauded the role of women in development of eth country and state. He said that the main motive of organizing this workshop was to acquaint the women staff about the provision of the Act.On the occasion Sub Divisional Officer Mr. Gaggan Deep Singh was also present.
