Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that in any kind of disaster management India should be number one in the world. Shah attended the annual conference of Capacity Building, which was organised by NDRF, on Saturday.

So many countries have adopted our method of disaster management and praised the success of our disaster management organisation, he said.

During the conference, Shah said the government will provide with all the help that they can. But in the past, the disaster management has been neglected at the district level.

In 1999, the cyclone in Odisha cost more than 10,000 lives and during the cyclone ‘Fani’ almost 64 people lost their lives and the credit should go to disaster management of India, the Home Minister said.

NDRF and SDRF should re-examine their work, after every disaster management is completed and due to global warming incidents of fire are on the rise, therefore on a priority base they should be dealt with.

This is the first time that all the major components of India’s Disaster Response Mechanism NDRF, SDRF, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Fire Services are attending the conference to discuss the various issues that pertain to Disaster Response, Disaster Risk Reduction and mutual cooperation in case of disaster.
