Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman replies to the general discussion on the Union Budget; says govt committed to the path of fiscal consolidation without cutting spending; says, several steps are being taken to make India a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2024-25.

Finance Minister replied to the debate on the Union Budget in Rajya Sabha today. She said that the aim of the Budget is to propel India to become a 5 Trillion dollar economy by 2024.

Finance Minister said that the Budget reflects the firm commitment of the government to boost investment in agriculture and social sector particularly healthcare.

The Budget boosts investments without compromising on fiscal consolidation roadmap. She said the Centre’s net tax revenue stood at Rs 16.49 lakh crore in 2019-20, up 11.13 % over previous year.

Nirmala Sitharaman said every projection of revenue and expense in Budget 2019-20 is realistic and adequately provided for. She also spelt out the 5 Rs to correct the Non performing assets in the banking sector.
