Australia thrash England to go 1-0 up in Ashes series

Australia drew first blood in the Ashes with a thumping 251-run victory over England in the opening Test match at Edgbaston on Monday.

For the second time in the match, England’s middle-order fell cheaply with Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali failing to get to double figures.

Local boy Chris Woakes top-scored for England with a knock of 37 runs. Pat Cummins and Lyon though, kept taking regular breakthroughs for their side. England had not lost a Test at their Birmingham stronghold since 2008 and toasted victory in each of their previous 11 matches here across all formats.
