Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza progressed into the quarterfinals of the ongoing China Open in Beijing on Wednesday in men’s and women’s doubles category.
The third-seeded pair of Mirza and her partner Peng Shuai, who had got a bye in the first round, got the better of Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs, beating the Belgian-Dutch pair 7-5, 6-2 to enter quarterfinals. Rohan Bopanna and his Uruguayan partner Pablo Cuevas defeated the Chinese pair of Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang by 6-0, 6-4.
Next up for Mirza-Shuai is the winner of the second-round contest between the fifth seeds Katerina Siniakova-Barbora Strycova. The Indo-Chinese pair had reached the Wuhan Open semifinal last week, only to go down against top seeds and eventual champions Martina Hingis and Yung-Jan Chan.
