Russian ship’s ‘aggression’ nearly caused collision in Arabian Sea, says US Navy

US Navy said that an American warship was “aggressively approached” by a Russian Navy ship in the North Arabian Sea.

Navy Commander and spokesman for US 5th Fleet Josh Frey said that the USS Farragut was conducting routine operations Thursday and sounded five short blasts to warn the Russian ship of a possible collision.

He said that an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer the USS Farragut asked the Russian ship to change course and the ship initially refused but ultimately moved away.

The Farragut was in the region as part of the strike group deployed late last year to the Middle East as tensions with Iran rose.
