The Department of Soil Science, PAU, Ludhiana and the Indian Society of Soil Science, Ludhiana Chapter along with the Soils Club observed the World Soil Day on December 8, 2017. Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean College of Agriculture was the Chief Guest at the event, while Dr D.K. Benbi, National Professor was the guest of honour, Dr Rajeev Sikka, President, Soils Club gave a brief about the history of World Soil Day. The post graduate students of the department participated in a quiz competition in which Deepika Makkar, Mandeep Singh and Shahida Nissar stood first and were awarded merit certificates. Miss Shehnaz Sharma was declared the best presenter and Ms. Snigda Chatterjee bagged the second position. Dr Kukal emphasized that every day should be observed as a soil day and Dr D K Benbi motivated the students and faculty to keep working with dedication. The event was also marked by a pledge taking ceremony to conserve soil. Dr O.P. Choudhary, Head, Department of Soil Science congratulated the winners and exhorted everybody to bring this pledge into practice.
