AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT FELICITATES FARMERS NOT BURNING THE PADDY STRAW

MLA PARGAT SINGH AND DIRECTOR AGRICULTURE BESTOWS AWARD UPON SIX FARMERS

The Agriculture department felicitated the farmers who have taken the path breaking initiative of not burning the paddy straw and mixing it back in the soil as per the advice of the agro-experts.

The farmers including Mr. Jasbir Singh of village Rahimpur, Mr. Lehmbar Singh of village Jamsher Khera, Mr. Ranjodh Singh of Lohian Khaas, Mr. Gurdev Singh Lally of Nangal Shama, Mr. Paduman Singh of village Nagar block Phillaur and Mr. Surjit Singh of village Alawalpur were honored by MLA Mr. Pargat Singh and Director Agriculture Dr. Jasbir Singh Bains in a district level farmers’ camp organized yesterday at village Jamsher Khaas.

On the occasion Dr. Bains said that those Panchayat who would not burn the paddy straw would also be felicitated by the state government. Urging the farmers not to burn the paddy straw, he said that as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal the farmer’s burning the paddy straw could be levied fine in form of Environment Cess ranging from Rs 2500 to Rs 15000 depending on the land holding.

MLA Mr. Pargat Singh and Director Agriculture also honored Retired Engineer Mr. Mahinder Kumar Sharma with Life Time Achievement Award for his immense contribution in promotion of modern techniques of agriculture.
