AGRO-PROCESSING CAN GIVE FINANCIAL BENEFITS TO FARMERS: PAU

LUDHIANA,
The Department of Processing and Food Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University, organized a one-day training programme on “Agro-processing- Cereals and Oilseeds.” The programme was a part of the adhoc project on “Farmer First Programme: Technology application and upscaling for sustaining natural resources and augmenting farmers’ income: Farmer led market linked approach” from ICAR and running under Directorate of Extension Education, PAU. In this training course, farmers from the adopted villages, namely Taranji Khera and Chatha Nanhera of Sangrur district, were demonstrated machinery used in the processing of wheat, paddy and oilseeds.

Dr A.K. Singh, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, exhorted the farmers to become producers as well as processors.

The Principal Investigator, Dr Prabhjyot Kaur encouraged the farmers to opt for processing related activities.

Dr Tarsem Chand, Co-investigator and Coordinator of the training course, stressed the need for setting-up of agro-processing complexes in rural areas of Punjab to improve the financial condition of the farming community.
