Akali leaders were in line of fire

Chandigarh, December 9, 2017: Akali leaders were in line of fire all over the state wherever they tried to disrupt normal life by blocking roads. The crackdown came in the wake of HC order on maintaining law and order and victory claims made by Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Friday.
Sukhbir announced lifting of statewide road blockades organised by his party workers against registration of allegedly false police cases against their leaders in violence related to MC polls in Ferozepur district.
Sukhbir claimed that the blockades were lifted as the state government had met their conditions. He had termed the government action as a big victory of his party.
But his claims turned short-lived as the Amarinder government on Saturday booked all senior Akali leaders and workers wherever they had organised blockades which made general public face a great deal of inconvenience.
On Friday itself, the police had booked Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia.
Notably, Sukhbir had issued a public apology for the hardships people had to bear during his party protests.
