Four persons were killed and several sustained injuries following a blast in a crackers’ godown at Sular Gharat late this evening.

Sources said locals heard the sound of a blast at the godown around 9.10 pm and informed the police and administrative officials.

Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Bali reached the spot to supervise the rescue operations along with other senior officers. Sangrur Deputy Commissioner APS Virk and SSP Mandeep Sidhu too had left for the spot at the time of filing of the report.

The sources said a number of labourers were at the godown at the time of the blast. “Four deaths have been confirmed by the Civil Surgeon. The rescue operation is still on,” said a government functionary. Some houses in the vicinity were also reportedly damaged in the incident.
