Board of directors okays DPR for new sugar mill

Karnal,
The board of directors of the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill today approved the detailed project report (DPR) for establishing a new sugar mill in place of the existing one. A sum of Rs 212.50 crore will be incurred on it.

With the new sugar mill project, the crushing capacity of the mill will increase from 2,200 tonne crushed per day (TCD) to 3,500 TCD. Besides, there will be a provision to increase the capacity to 4,200 TCD. It will also reduce the sugar loss to 1.8 per cent from the existing 2.5 per cent per quintal. The sugar recovery will increase to 11 per cent from the existing 10.87 per cent per quintal.

Due to its old infrastructure, the mill had witnessed three consecutive shutdown during the last crushing season, which led to resentment among farmers. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced to establish a new sugar mill last year.

At a meeting of the board of directors held today at the mill, the DPR prepared by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factory (NFCSF) was presented, which was discussed by Deputy Commissioner-cum-chairman of the mill Aditya Dahiya with various directors, sugar mill MD Varsha Khangwal, technical advisor of NFCSF Jasbir Singh, chief engineer Virender Dahiya and others. It was claimed that the mill would be established in one year after the tender process.

The DC directed the authorities concerned to ensure the quality of infrastructure. He also inspected the existing sugar mill. He said the new mill would be fully computerised and would have a control room.

“Harvinder Kalyan, HAFED chairman, had recently assured an economic help of Rs 50 crore to the new mill,” the DC said.
