Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi today.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the prevailing situation in the state particularly the plight of residents of border villages who have been suffering due to continued shelling in the state. The Chief Minister sought immediate construction of more individual and community bunkers, besides other relief measures for the victims of border firing in the state. Since the Uri terror attack in September 2016, followed by surgical strikes across the LoC on terror launch pads by the Indian Army, the situation along the LoC has become dangerous. The Pakistani army continues to violate the ceasefire agreement to which the Indian Army responds.

This has led to killing of civilians as well as security forces, besides huge damage to houses and civilian population gets affected whenever shells land in their vicinity. Thousands of people had to migrate to safer places amid heavy shelling and their life has become difficult. People have been demanding community as well as individual bunkers at safer places. Keeping all in mind, Mehbooba discussed these things with the minister and demanded relief measures for border victims. She also discussed with Rajnath the implementation of Agenda of Alliance (AoA) in the state and the necessary steps to be taken for its expeditious execution.
