Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda today said the Central government was committed to providing affordable and accessible medical care to the people in every area of the country.

He was addressing representatives of the National Medical Organisation (NMO) from different states while inaugurating the two-day annual National Conference 2018 on the campus of the BPS Government Women Medical College at Khanpur Kalan in the district.

A total of 1,200 representatives from 19 states were participating in the conference. He said the government planned to provide healthcare facilities to the people and make health education available to the youth. The government planned to open a medical college in every district, he said.

He stated that the number of seats for medical graduates had been increased from 30,000 to 50,000 by the BJP government at the Centre and there was target to increase it up to 85,000. Around 6,000 seats for PG classes were also increased last year by the government, he said.

The minister said around 10 crore families with 50 crore members had been brought under the cover of Ayushmaan health scheme, which was the largest health protection cover scheme in the world.

Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu, NMO guardian Dr Gopal Krishan, NMO national president Dr MC Patel, NMO state president Dr JP Nalwa, University of Health Sciences Rohtak’s Vice Chancellor Dr OP Kalra and BPS Government Women Medical College Director Dr PS Gahlaut also spoke on the occasion.
