Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Bhupinder Pal Singh today said that in a path breaking initiative the Punjab government has decided to include debt ridden farmers and unemployed youth along with 16 other categories for availing the benefits of Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY).

Divulging the details in a review meeting of all the concerned officers /officials in the Shahpur campus of CT institute today morning, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that besides the debt ridden farmers, families with woman as head of family, the families who have lost their only bread earner, families with members suffering from serious ailments like cancer, families of Army martyrs, kin of freedom fighters, homeless families, school dropout children, families with specially able children, distressed old age people, drug addicts, families in problem due to natural disasters, unemployed youth above 18 years, children with malnutrition, sanitary workers, orphan children, transgender, acid attack victims, families living in slums and other would be eligible for the benefits of scheme. He said that for availing the scheme the income of family must not be above Rs 60,000 annually and the family should not possess more than 2.5 acre of land. Likewise, Dr Bhupinder Pal Singh said that beneficiaries must be resident of the state.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that for identification of the eligible beneficiaries under the scheme committees have been constituted to conduct door-to-door survey. He said that the committee would include Guardian of Governance, Panchayat Secretary and one social worker of the village. Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh said that in case GoG was not available an official has been appointed in his place by the Deputy Commissioner.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner asked the officers/ officials to complete the work of survey regarding this by the end of this year so that a consolidated list could be compiled for it. He said that the complete list of the eligible beneficiaries would be uploaded on the website of the district administration.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner reiterated that state government’s this ambitious scheme aims at inclusive development and ensuring equitable access to benefits of all socio-economic development schemes to the most deserving. He said that the scheme would be implemented in the rural areas of district, where it would identify the poor and distressed households which have been hitherto deprived of the benefits of the various welfare schemes. Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh said that the scheme also aims to achieve the objectives of holistic development of all sections of the society besides ensuring social justice and equality by improving the standard of living and quality of life in rural area.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Rajeev Verma and Ms. Navneet Kaur Bal, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal and Vice Chairman of CT Group Mr. Harpreet Singh Channi.
