Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankhar said that the market in Delhi was the best business opportunity for farmers of the state and they could supplement their income by changing agriculture with agro-services.

He was addressing a seminar on “Food Processing-Focus Haryana” organised by the state Agriculture Department at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli, in the district on Thursday.

Explaining that Delhi was estimated to be Rs 36,5000-crore market and as the National Capital was surrounded from three sides by Haryana, Dhankar stressed that state farmers were required to have control over the market of Rs 27,500 crore. “The state government will extend every possible help for this market,” he assured.

The minister said that after formation of the new governments at the Center and in the state, farmers’ income had increased by Rs 11,500 per acre because of pro-farming policies. “There is food business of nearly Rs 2,000 crore between Chandigarh and Delhi through Haryana,” he said and added that the state government wanted to increase it to Rs 4,000 crore.
