Election decision Centre’s sheer arrogance, says PDP

Srinagar
Hours after Union Home Minister’s appeal, the PDP termed the announcement of the panchayat and urban local bodies polls in the state a reflection of Government of India’s sheer arrogance, cautioning that such a move could turn the already violent state into an inferno.

In a statement issued here, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, PDP general secretary, said despite the stiff opposition exhibited by the political parties in the state, the decision to go ahead with the polls reflected how the helmsmen in New Delhi wanted to make such a vital democratic exercise a one-way street in the state.

“The PDP and other political groups have already been voicing their concern that the situation in the state is not conducive for the elections and that the Central government has to initiate confidence-building measures in a bid to rebuild peoples’ trust and faith in the institutions of democracy,” he said.

He said instead of taking into consideration of the views and opinions put forth by state’s political spectrum, New Delhi went ahead with announcing the poll dates.
