Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti convener Hardik Patel was admitted in the Government Sola Civil Hospital Friday evening on the 14th day of his indefinite fast after he complained of breathing problems.

“He began complaining of breathlessness and we could see that he was losing consciousness. Before he goes into coma, all PAAS leaders present decided to shift him to the hospital much against his wishes,” PAAS spokesman Manoj Panara, a close aide of Hardik, said. “However, his protest would continue and he will not consume either water or food,” he said.
A medical bulletin issued by the hospital soon after his admission said he had refused to consume any water or food but he was put on saline and that his condition was stable.

Hardik, who was on indefinite fast from August 25 demanding loan waiver for the farmers, reservation benefits to the Patels and release of PAAS co-convener Alpesh Kathiriya held under sedition charges, had stopped taking water since Thursday evening after the deadline the PAAS had issued to the Gujarat government for initiative for talks expired without any response from the government. The state government and the ruling BJP so far had refused to take any note of his indefinite fast or the deteriorating health conditions stating that it was a “Congress-sponsored political stunt” and neither the Patels nor the farmers were with Hardik or the Congress.
