Fresh landslides block highway for 12 hours
Jammu
The traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained suspended for 12 hours due to fresh landslides at Kheri near Udhampur town. According to reports, boulders and rocks fell on the highway late Tuesday night, blocking a large part of the road. An under-construction bridge on the highway was also partially damaged. Machinery of the General Reserve Engineer Force was mobilised to clear the debris. After a three-hour-long operation at Kheri, the road was cleared for traffic.
Though the traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway was partially restored after 5 pm on Wednesday, there were hundreds vehicles on the both ends of the road. This led to chaos-like situation right up to Udhampur town.
According to SSP Shakti Pathak, the traffic was partially restored on the highway after the GREF made single road operative following continuous work since early morning.
