Thousands of students suffering due to the lapse of responsible governance by the Congress govt. in the State – NSCA

Paramjit Singh Kainth, President, National Scheduled Castes Alliance today criticized the State government and held them responsible for the ongoing mockery of education and responsible governance by the Congress party ruled State Government. Blaming the Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh and other Ministers responsible for this lapse, relating to the decision of the Punjab University, Chandigarh to withhold the degrees of 2,000 Scheduled Castes students due to the inability of the State Government to submit Post Matric Scholarship scheme’s funds in the accounts of the University.

Kainth said, “An amount of almost Rs 10 crore for the year 2015-18 has not been submitted with the University, this amount was supposed to be granted to the university by the State Government under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme. Apart from being ignorant towards the plight of these aggrieved students, the Capt. Amrinder Singh led government has not taken a single step towards the redressal of this issue. The future of these students is on the line and any lapse in providing relief to these students will hinder the academic careers of these kids. The State government should seek permission of the Election Commission to disburse the funds allocated under the Scheme to the University.

Election Commission has to be approached as soon as possible in order to provide relief to the suffering Students of the university. The University also has to be criticized for its action, not caring at all for the future of the Students.”Kainth further explained, “Post matric scholarship scheme is a Centre Sponsored Scheme and the State government only has to monitor and disburse the funds accordingly. This incident clearly shows that the lives and bright future of the Scheduled Castes community is of least concern for the government. This incident and also many other such incidents have brought intense mental and emotional distraught of the Schedueld castes communtiy and National Scheduled Castes Alliance will be forced to stage protests on a much massive scale if the Government does not heed to the needs of the community.”
