Guv briefed on legal issues of pilgrimages

DC Raina, member of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and legal adviser to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, called on Governor NN Vohra, chairman of both the boards, the Raj Bhawan here on Tuesday.

He discussed with the Governor legal and other matters relating to the efficient management, maintenance and administration of both the pilgrimages. Meanwhile, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, adviser to the Chief Minister, also met the Governor. Mattoo briefed Vohra on the initiatives under way on various fronts for promoting the higher educational interests of J&K.

The Governor urged Mattoo to focus on the importance of a well-planned initiative being implemented to nurture and advance the aspirations of the youth and safeguarding the functioning of educational institutions at all levels. He also called for ensuring that the academic schedules of students were not disrupted by unrest.

AG Mir, Additional Director General of Police, CID, also met the Governor at Raj Bhawan and briefed him on various important developments relating to the state. Meanwhile, Rajesh Gupta, chairman, Tourism Federation, Jammu, also called on the Governor. He briefed the Governor on various important issues relating to the conduct of the approaching Amarnath yatra and stressed the need for ensuring safety and security of the pilgrims.
