Heavy rain, landslides stall Amarnath Yatra; hit normal life in various states

Heavy rain and landslides have stalled the Amarnath Yatra, several districts in Bihar are reeling under the impact of heavy rain and flooding has impacted parts of Assam. Here’s a roundup of the rain and flood situation in different parts of India.

Heavy rains in Kashmir have stalled the Amarnath Yatra on the Baltal and Pahalgam Marg but the state’s many rivers are now flowing below the danger mark pushing the situation to normal in the state.

Meanwhile in Bihar, normal life in districts like Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga , Sitamarhi, Madhuvani and Purvi Champaran has been severely affected by heavy rains.

Even as waters receded in most rivers it could be some time before the situation becomes normal.

Major parts of Assam too continue to be submerged in flood waters affecting 50,000 people in 50 districts. A bridge in Chirang collapsed. The Brahmaputra and many of its tributaries continue to flow above the danger mark.

According to the MeT Dept, there could be some relief for heavy rains in Bihar, Assam, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir but Central India particularly Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Konkan and Goa would experience heavy showers.
