Chandigarh, August 07, 2017: “The Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh is totally committed to fulfill every promise made to the employees and people of the state and as part of this commitment the Government has issued a notification increasing the honorarium of the cooks and helpers under the mid day meal scheme by Rs. 500 which has benefitted 42647 beneficiaries who have been paid the increased amount in July.” This was disclosed by the Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary here today in a statement.

The minister further said that the previous government had decided to increase the honorarium of cooks cum helpers of the mid day meal scheme by Rs. 500 on 19th December, 2016 but in the absence of any notification the cooks cum helpers were getting the old amount of Rs. 1200 per month. The minister also said that as per this pro-people measure promulgated on the directions of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, the Education Department issued the notification in this regard. Mrs. Chaudhary also divulged that this increase would be implemented from 1st January, 2017 onwards and the beneficiaries would get arrears.
