Virat Kohli was lucky with the toss for the fifth time in a row on this Sri Lanka tour. India have won all the matches so far, clinching the first ODI by nine wickets in Damulla on Sunday after sweeping the Test series 3-0.

India retained the same eleven which eased to victory in the first ODI, where opener Shikhar Dhawan struck an unbeaten 132 after racing to his fastest century, off only 71 balls.

Sri Lanka make three changes

Sri Lanka, desperate for a turnaround in fortunes, made three changes. They dropped all-rounder Thisara Perera, chinaman bowler Lakshan Sandakan and leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga from the previous game, which Sri Lanka lost by nine wickets. They were replaced by off-spinner Akila Dhananjaya, pacer Dushmantha Chameera and Milinda Siriwardana, left-arm spinner and batsman.

Upul Tharanga had said on Wednesday that the hosts would make changes in a bid to find some momentum in the series. Sri Lanka have to win two matches to seal a direct berth for the 2019 World Cup and edge out West Indies ahead of the September 30 deadline.

Sri Lanka’s ODI record in 2017 has been very poor. Out of their 17 matches, they have lost 12. But of the four wins, one came against India at the ICC Champions Trophy group stage. And that will be a consolation as they look to recover.

For India, Shikhar Dhawan scored his 11th ODI century in Dambulla, whiere Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 82 after raising an unbroken second wicket partnership of 197 runs with the left-handed opener.
