BJP’s Jairam Thakur to take oath as next chief minister of himachal pradesh on wednesday; Thakur meets Governor and stakes claim to form the government with letters of support.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat invited Bharatiya Janata Party to form the next government in the hill state, after MLA Jai Ram Thakur was picked by the party’s high command for the Chief Minister’s post.

Thakur was selected in a high level meeting on Sunday afternoon attended by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Urban Development Narendra Tomar and party state in-charge and Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey, state core committee members and newly elected legislators.

After the meeting, Thakur along with BJP’s several senior leader’s gave a letter to the Governor staking claim to form the government.

Earlier in the day, Five-time BJP MLA Jairam Thakur was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party, and he will be the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. The decision was taken at a meeting of BJP MLAs in Shimla.

The Chief Minister-designate Jairam Thakur said that he will do his best to come up to expectations of people in the state.

· Son of Jethu Ram Thakur, Jairam Thakur was born on 6 January 1965 at Tandi (Near Thunag), Distt. Mandi, Himachal Pradesh in a very humble family.

· His wife Dr. Sadhna Thakur, who is well known doctor of Mandi, is also a famous social worker

· Jairam Thakur did his primary schooling in his village, and went to a school in a village nearby for middle school.

· Jairam Thakur did his graduation from evening college in Mandi and also got introduced to student politics.

· Thakur soon joined ABVP, and by the time he graduated, he had decided to become an ABVP whole-timer.

· He was sent to Jammu for the organisation, and worked there for three or four years.

· In 1998, when he was just 38 years old, Thakur was given the BJP ticket from Chachiot Vidhan Sabha segment. Thakur defeated Congress veteran Moti Ram Thakur by nearly 6,000 votes.

· Thakur won consecutive elections from Chachiot in 2003 and 2007 by big margins, before the constituency became Seraj.

· In 2012, Jairam Thakur defeated Congress’s Tara Thakur by over 5,700 votes.

· In 2013, Jairam Thakur contested an unsuccessful Lok Sabha by-election from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh against Virbhadra Singh’s wife Pratibha Singh.

· Jairam Thakur also served as state party president from 2007 to 2009. His term as president was considered as non-controversial and acceptable.
