J&K situation improved but ceasefire violations a concern: Rajnath
Jammu,
Winding up his four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday observed that the situation in Kashmir had improved as compared to that of the last year.
“I cannot say that complete peace has been restored in the Valley, but there is a visible improvement in the situation as compared to that of last year,” he said while addressing a press conference here before leaving for New Delhi.
Rajnath, who visited the Nowshera area of Rajouri, however, expressed concern over the frequent ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) saying the Centre had decided to construct bunkers for the safety and security of the border inhabitants.
“Eighty bunkers have already been constructed and more would be constructed in the days to come,” he said.
Pointing to the unabated ceasefire violations on the border, Rajnath said, “The prevailing situation on the border shows that Pakistan is not interested in normalising relations with India.”
He said since 2014, ceasefire violation on the border had become routine. “More than 400 ceasefire violations took place on the border every year since 2014,” he said, asserting that Pakistan had to stop ceasefire violation on the border.
Amid debate on deportation of Rohingyas illegally living in different parts of the country, the minister dubbed them as a security threat. “We will strongly deal with these illegal immigrants living in different areas,” he said.
