Javelin thrower Davinder Singh Kang is a broken man. Only hours before the Indian Grand Prix-1, he was barred from competing at the event as he had tested positive for a banned steroid. Having already asked to get his B Sample tested, Kang, who made history after qualifying for the final at the 2017 World Championships last year, has his defence ready. Traces of Androstane, an anabolic steroid, were found from the sample that was collected on November 10. All samples taken after November 10 have returned negative, claimed the 29-year-old from Jalandhar. “The steroid that has been found in my body usually stays for over three months. I have been found positive from the sample that was taken on November 10. All the samples taken after that have returned negative. How is this possible?” Kang told The Tribune. “Also, why will I deliberately do this when I know I am part of the WADA testing pool and they can ask for a sample anytime? They can ask for 20 samples in a month and so can NADA,” he added. Without pointing a finger at anyone, Kang said there was a need for a probe. “I don’t know whether it is a deliberate attempt to malign me but I want it to be probed. One thing I am sure about is that there was a fault during testing,” he said.  “This is worse than taking poison. I have worked hard to do something worthwhile. Why will I jeopardise my career like this?” he added. “I am going mad. I haven’t yet broken this bad news to my parents.” Last year, Kang was rapped on the knuckles for testing positive for marijuana. Incidentally, that report had also surfaced during an Indian Grand Prix event. Kang was not suspended for the offence, paving way for his participation in both national and international events.
