Kin implicated in fake case, says Dy Mayor
Karnal,
Karnal Deputy Mayor and INLD leader Manoj Wadhwa on Friday accused Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of not taking any action against police officials allegedly responsible for the death of his brother Bharat, alias Sonu Wadhwa, who committed suicide in September last year.
Talking to mediapersons here, Wadhwa said despite the CM’s assurances, no action has been initiated against the police officials even after eight months of his brother’s death.
Bharat went missing on September 14 last year and his car was found abandoned on the banks of the augmentation canal near Uncha Samana village. His body was recovered from the canal on September 16.
“The CM had assured me justice twice, but no action has been initiated against the police officials who forced my brother to commit suicide,” said Wadhwa.
Not getting justice from the government, he had to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court which granted bail to his father Radhe Shyam on May 8 in connection with a case registered on December 30, 2016, during demonetisation at Taraori police station, he said.
The case was registered at the behest of Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi and other BJP leaders, he alleged.
As per the case, the police had claimed to have recovered Rs 70 lakh from his father and his accountant Mohit Popli, while the actual amount was Rs 16.42 lakh.
The then Taraori SHO had also said that the amount was Rs 16.42 lakh, but due to political pressure, an FIR was registered against them and three police officials, including the SHO, were later suspended, said Wadhwa.
Even after proving the source of the money to the Income Tax Department, which had also given them a clean chit, they were harassed by the police, he alleged.
The Deputy Mayor held the then two Karnal DSPs and an Inspector of the CIA-2 responsible for the death of his brother. “My brother was innocent. He was pressurised by the DSPs for the arrest of my father and other family members which forced him to take the extreme step,” he alleged.
