Lalu Yadav discharged from AIIMS, cries ‘conspiracy’

New Delhi,
A controversy broke out here on Monday after the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, discharged RJD chief Lalu Yadav following improvement in his condition and referred him back to the AIIMs, Ranchi.

Yadav alleged political conspiracy in the discharge and said he was being unfairly sent out even while he was still ailing.

Ahead of discharge today, Lalu Yadav shot a letter to AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria saying he is still very ill and should not be discharged.

“I am down with heart problem, kidney problem and diabetes. I have backache and I have fallen in the toilet. My blood pressure and sugar keeps rising. I’m being treated for all these ailments here at the AIIMS. I want to tell you that in Birsa Munda prison, Ranchi medical colleges and the AIIMS, Ranchi, there’s no arrangement to address kidney ailments. Every person has a right to health. I have no idea under which political compulsion and pressure I am being discharged. You know I’m a prisoner and it takes 16 hours to reach Ranchi by train.”

Lalu warned the AIIMS, Delhi, that if anything happened to him in transit or in Ranchi, the responsibility would squarely be theirs.

“Doctors are the mirror images of God and they should not act under political pressure,” Lalu said.

Earlier, the AIIMS in a statement said Lalu was referred from the Ranchi Medical College to the AIIMS for management of his acute medical condition and he had improved significantly.

“As per advice of the medical board constituted for his treatment, he is being referred back to the Ranchi Medical College for management of his chronic issues. He is currently stable and is fit to travel,” the AIIMS said.
