Maldives SC rejects case on emergency

The Supreme Court dismissed the case regarding the validity of the Presidential Decree implementing a State of Emergency in the country. The top Court

noted that there were no grounds to presume that the Presidential Decree issued on 5 February 2018 was in contravention of the Constitution of the Maldives.

Earlier, the Supreme Court has put a stay on its earlier ruling of February 1 to reinstate 12 parliamentarians who have lost their seats. Maldives government

under President Abdullah Yameen had imposed 15- day emergency on 5th of this month and arrested chief justice and another judge of Supreme court on

charges of trying to overthrow the government.

Parliament to meet for an extraordinary session on Monday. Maldives imposed 15-day emergency on 5th of this month.
