Manpreet inspires India to 4-3 win over Netherlands

Skipper Manpreet Singh scored twice as the Indian men’s hockey team came back from a goal down to stun World No. 4 Netherlands 4-3 at the Robo Super Series. Manpreet (30th min, 44th) starred for the sixth-ranked India, while Varun Kumar (17th) and Harjeet Singh (49th) chipped in with a goal each. Bob de Voogd scored two goals for world No. 4 Netherlands. The hosts drew first blood when they won a penalty corner in the fifth minute. The drag flick found the foot of skipper Manpreet Singh, resulting in another penalty corner, and eventually a penalty stroke. Mink van der Weerden put his side ahead when he pushed the ball past India’s goalkeeper Akash Chikte.

India got over the initial jitters by controlling the midfield, thanks to Manpreet who showcased top quality skill and stick work. The attacking approach helped India find a penalty corner in the 17th minute. Varun Kumar converted the opportunity to make it 1-1.
