As far as 2nd innings in Test Cricket is concerned, Mohammed Shami has become the most successful bowler in the last two years. Shami has taken 51 wickets in 20 innings since 2018. Only Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon are close to him.

In the past two years, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has displayed a different side of himself. In the 2nd innings of a Test match, the 29-year old is capatin Virat Kohli’s most lethal weapon. If we take a look at his stats, Shami has taken 51 wickets in 20 innings at an average of 17.00 since 2018. Sahmi’s strike rate of 32.2 is best among bowlers who have taken 25 or more wickets in the past two years in the second innings of a Test match.

The other bolwers who feature in the list are- Pat Cummins (Australia, 48 wickets), Nathan Lyon , Kagiso Rabada , Ravindra Jadeja , Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood (Australia, 29 wickets). In the opening test match against Bangladesh in Indore, Shami took seven wickets and in which four scalps belong to 2nd innings. And this performance has lifted him eight places to seventh position in latest ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. In the Freedom Trophy against South Africa, Shami played crucial role in India’s 3-0 win as he claimed 13 wickets in six innings at an average of 14.76. He has taken three five-wicket hauls in the second innings in the last two years and also became the first fast bowler in 23 years to take a fifer in fourth innings in India.

Currently, the Indian pace attack is one of the best in world cricket. In the three match series against South Africa Indian pacers took 26 wickets at home contditions. There was no Jasprit Bumrah in opening test match against Bangladesh in Indore but Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav were ruthless and unplayable as Bangladeshi batsmen danced to their tunes. . The trio of Shami, Ishant and Umesh took a total of 14 wickets in the match to demolish Bangladesh in both the innings. In past two years, Indian pacers have bagged 271 wickets at a strike rate of 44.2 in 23 matches and this is main reason behind behind Team India’s transition into the No.1 ranked side in test cricket.
