Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain today said that it was essential to protect and strengthen human rights for the progress and prosperity of society.

She was addressing a seminar on World Human Rights Day organised by the Manav Adhikar Sanrakshan Sangh at the DCR University of Science and Technology at Murthal in the district.

She said there are provisions of human rights in the Indian Constitution and the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana had launched a number of programmes such as Jan Dhan Yojana and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to strengthen human rights of individuals. She said instead of depending only on government efforts, society need to take the responsibility of protecting human rights.
