Nepal: Election for National Assembly to be held on Feb 7
In Nepal, election for National Assembly, the upper house of parliament will be held on February 7. The decision was taken at an emergency cabinet meeting held at Kathmandu today.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had held discussion with five national parties yesterday to finalize date of National Assembly election.
Earlier, the Election Commission had recommended government to hold National Assembly elections on February 8. The upper house will have total 59 members. All seven provinces will elect 8 members each through an electoral college comprising of members of state assemblies and chief and deputy chiefs of local bodies.
The president will appoint 3 members. The left alliance of CPN and CPN has been demanding to hold National Assembly elections at the earliest. The alliance had registered landslide victory in the recently held parliament and provincial assembly elections in Nepal.
