NEW APPOINTMENTS AT PAU

LUDHIANA,
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has appointed Dr Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Senior Agronomist, as Director, School of Organic Farming and Dr Harminder Singh, Senior Horticulturist, as Head, Department of Fruit Science, PAU.

Having 22 years of experience in research, teaching and extension, Dr C.S. Aulakh has given 30 recommendations in Package of Practices for different crops. He has to his credit 97 research and extension publications, four books, two teaching manuals, one extension bulletin and 16 book chapters. He has also handled three research projects in the past and is currently involved in three research projects including Network Project on Organic Farming. Besides, he has taught 30 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate courses, and guided one Ph.D and six M.Sc students as Major Advisor. He has also organized four training programmes, delivered 18 invited lectures, 169 training lectures, and 31 TV and radio talks. In addition, he has attended five international and 69 national conferences/seminars/workshops.

Dr Harminder Singh has contributed immensely in improving the productivity of fruit crops through the development of superior cultivars, production of quality planting material, canopy management and high density planting. His scientific contributions to the farmers are documented by the inclusion of his 26 recommendations in the Package of Practices, PAU. He has been the Principal Investigator of eight adhoc schemes and has guided five Ph.D. and 13 M.Sc. students as Major Advisor. He has published more than 160 research papers and extension articles in the national and international journals of repute. Dr Singh is the main resource person for nursery production of different fruit crops. He has produced more than 13 lac healthy and disease free nursery fruit plants, which have played a major role in the expansion of area under fruit crops in the state. Due to his sincere efforts, PAU Fruit Nursery has been accredited at the national level with four star rating twice by National Horticulture Board, Government of India.
