Unhappy with the working of the chairperson and vice-chairperson, 12 of the 17 Zila Parishad members moved a no-confidence motion against them on Monday. They termed the functioning of Chairperson Ashu Shera and Vice-Chairperson Punita Devias ‘unsatisfactory’.
Ashu Shera, who is a member of the Zila Parishad from ward-1 and Punita Devi of Ward No 8 were elected Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, respectively, on March 18, 2016.
Zila Parishad members Vinay Gupta (Ward No 2), Aasha (Ward No 4), Sunil (Ward No 9), Nidhi Rawal (Ward No 11), Shyam Chand (Ward No 13), Lakhmi (Ward No 16), Satyanarain (Ward No 5), Dayanad Urlana (Ward No 3), Sunita Devi (Ward No 10), Kajal Goswami (Ward No 12) and Jyoti Rani (Ward No 15) submitted affidavits in support of the no-trust motion to the Deputy Commissioner and CEO, Zila Parishad. Vinay Gupta from Ward No 2 said, “Chairperson Ashu Shera and Vice-Chairperson Punita Devi have failed to develop rural areas in the past 27 months.”
The ZP chairperson along with her husband Satyawan Shera, state general secretary of the BJP, made a mockery of the democracy, Gupta alleged. He alleged the chairperson was misusing power and facilities provided to her.
The councillors also accused the Chairperson and her husband of discrimination and negligence in development works. They demanded removal of Chairperson Ashu Shera and Vice-Chairperson Punita Devi from the post and sought re-election to both the posts.
