Economic condition of the State of Punjab particularly the Farmers can only be improved by strengthening the Cooperative Movement. These are the views expressed by Sh.Arvinder Singh Bains, IAS, Registrar Cooperative Societies, Punjab in a programme on 15.11.2017 held in the Morinda Cooperative Sugar Mills on the eve of celebrations of “64th All India Cooperative Week” under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Punjab. On this occasion seminars on “Cooperatives- Producers to Consumers” and “Agriculture Diversification & Sugarcane development” were also held.

During the function, Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Punjab informed that Hon’ble Chief Minister, Punjab has issued directions to release the pending payment of sugarcane growers and the amount is being transferred directly in the accounts of Sugarcane Growers at the earliest. He has also informed that the process for modernization and expansion of the oldest Sugar Mill in the State installed in the year 1956-57 at Bhogpur is going on and work will be started shortly. Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Punjab has informed that under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Punjab the Department of Cooperation is making efforts to financially strengthen the Milkfed, Sugarfed, Markfed and other Cooperative Institutions because economic status of the farmers can only be improved by Cooperative Movement. Under this programme efforts are being made to make Rural Cooperative Societies more efficient. While presiding over the function, Sh.Arun Sekhri,IAS Managing Director, Sugarfed, Punjab appealed to the sugarcane growers to supply the clean and high quality sugarcane so as to improve the working efficiency of Sugar Mills. He also assured the farmers that they will not face any difficulty during the crushing season. Sh.Arvinder Singh Rangi, Chairman, Morinda Cooperative Sugar Mills thanked the Chief Guest and other guests who attended the said function.
