On women in key roles, BJP better than Cong: Sushma

Ahmedabad
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today termed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s poser on women in the RSS as an instance of

“vulgarity” and said that he did not deserve a reply from the BJP on the issue.

“A senior leader of an important political party like the Congress who is being tipped to become its president should have refrained from making

such vulgar comments about women,” Sushma said.

“If he had simply asked why women are not found in the RSS, I would have given him a logical reply. But the language he used about women

dressing up in shorts was totally vulgar and does not deserve a response,” she said.

At the Gujarat University convention centre here, the External Affairs Minister — flanked by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and former CM

Anandiben Patel — was holding the first “women’s town hall”, answering questions from women on issues related to the Gujarat Assembly

elections.

“There are 142 women-specific schemes in Gujarat. All these are for the welfare of women,” Swaraj said.

She also hit out at the Congress over its allegations that women did not get to play key roles in the BJP. “A lot of canard was spread by the

Congress against the BJP that our party is anti-women and that women are not given importance in the BJP.”

She pointed out that the BJP had given four women Chief Ministers, six women currently are Cabinet-rank ministers in the Modi ministry and

four women were recently appointed Governors.

“The BJP track record is much better than the Congress. For 10 years, there were only two women members in the Manmohan Singh ministry,”

she claimed.
