PAU DECKS-UP FOR 50 yrs of KISAN MELA

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is decked-up for golden jubilee celebration of Kisan Mela. S. Manpreet Singh Badal, Finance Minister, Punjab, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, said, “PAU is the first agricultural university in India to initiate and organize Kisan Melas in 1967. Commemorating 50 years of initiation of Kisan Mela is a historic moment for PAU.” Kisan Mela is highly important event for disseminating latest farm information and technologies among farmers, he stated. It helps in gathering feedback from farmers, which further paves way for designing future research strategies, he added.
Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, said the main attractions of the mela will be agro-industrial exhibition, technical question–answer session, field demonstrations, soil and water testing, produce and home science competitions, sale of farm literature and cultural programme.
Dr T.S. Dhillon, Director (Seeds), said the seeds of varieties of wheat, barley, gram, lentil, toria, raya, gobhi sarson, African sarson, linseed, oats, berseem, ryegrass, metha and celery crops will be available for purchase. In addition, vegetable seed kits and winter vegetable seeds in small packets will be sold during the mela, he informed.
