The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is all set to hold the “Food Industry and Craft (FI&C) Mela” on October 12 in the University. Dr R.K. Gupta, Director, Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana, will be the chief guest while Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU, will preside over the mela. The Department of Food Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, in collaboration with the College of Home Science, PAU, will organize the mela. It will be held under the guidance of Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture; and Dr J.K. Gulati, Dean, College of Home Science, PAU.

Divulging contours, Dr Poonam A. Sachdev, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU, said more than 100 stalls will be put up at the mela. The food industry and craft mela will highlight the activities of Food Industry and Incubation Centre, PAU, she told. All the entrepreneurs, who have received training and to whom the technologies have been transferred by the department, will put up exhibition of their products, she informed. The self help groups/NGOs/farm women/farmers who have been trained by the Department of Food Science and Technology and the College of Home Science, will also exhibit their products for sale, she added. The mela will also showcase the work done by the department and other allied departments and make available the information regarding several technologies developed by them, she said. The stalls for the sale of handicrafts and fabrics will also be put up at the mela, she added.
