PAU INKS PACT FOR HYBRID SEED PRODUCTION OF FORAGE SORGHUM

The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana has entered into agreement with M/s Stargene Hybrid Seeds, Sunam, for hybrid seed production of forage sorghum hybrid, Punjab Sudax Chari 4(PSC 4). The memorandum of agreement was signed by Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director of Research, PAU, and Shri Aman Gupta, Manager, Stargene Hybrid Seeds on behalf of their respective organizations.Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU, presided over the ceremony and applauded the efforts towards distribution of high yielding fodder to the farmers of Punjab.
While giving information about the MoA, Dr T.S. Dhillon, Director, Seeds, said that the company will produce certified seed of university developed forage sorghum hybrid, Punjab Sudax Chari4 (PSC4) for distribution of the seed to farmers by the university.
Dr R.S. Sohu, Senior Breeder and developer of the hybrid revealed that PSC4 is multi cut with three good cuttings, thereby giving a significantly higher, superior quality green fodder yield of 445 quintals per acre. He also informed that the hybrid is resistant to leaf disease and shoot fly.
Also present during the ceremony were, Additional Director, Extension, Dr D.S. Bhatti, Adjunct Professor, Technology and Marketing Cell, Dr S.S. Chahal and Additional Director of Research, Dr M.S. Dhaliwal.
“PAU has signed 49 MoAs for commercialization of 33 products vis a vis, crop hybrids, technologies, bio pesticides, bio fertilizers etc with various companies, firms, farmers etc since 2012”, informed Dr Chahal
