PAU ORGANIZES CAMPAIGN ON SAFE DRINKING WATER
LUDHIANA,
The College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a two-day campaign on “Safe Drinking Water” at village Begowal, district Ludhiana. The awareness was created under the guidance of Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Head, Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, PAU. Drinking water samples of water works supply and submersible pumps from community places were tested during the campaign. Besides, lecture-cum-demonstration was organized by the students under Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) programme to disseminate knowledge about water testing kit, developed by PAU.
Dr J.K. Gulati, Dean, College of Home Science, appreciated the students for selecting an important issue for organizing this campaign. She exhorted them to continue working in this area in other villages as well.
Dr Kanwaljit Kaur, Professor, apprised the villagers of safe drinking water. Discussing the low cost measures for cleaning water, she advocated the use of bleaching powder for cleaning water tanks and pipes, and use of chlorine for cleaning water.
Dr Sukhdeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, discussed the ill-effects of unsafe water on human health. The programme was organized with the help of Mrs Tejinder Kaur, Sarpanch of the village.
