PAU ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON SNP MARKER IDENTIFICATION AND UITLIZATION
Ludhiana,
The School of Agricultural Biotechnology,PAU, conducted a one day workshop on “SNP Identification and Utilization through KASP Technology” to enhance the awareness about SNP genotyping platforms and utilization of Single nucleotide polymorphism markers through KompetitiveAllele Specific PCR technology in gene mapping and markers assisted selection. The workshop included detailed delving on the generation and identification of the SNP markers by Dr Dharminder Bhatia, Assistant Quantitative Geneticist. Dr Mitaly Bansal, Research Associate deliberated on the basics of the KASP technology and designing of KASP primers. The detailed lectures and discussion were followed by hands-on training on use of the KASP markers and data analysis. More than 56research scientists and scholars from different departments of the PAU participated in this workshop. Dr Parveen Chhuneja, Director, School of Agricultural Biotechnology informed that it was an initiative to augment the knowledge of PAU researchers on the use of this highly advanced molecular technology which has immense potential in identification of new genes and in developing crop varieties through marker assisted selection. She informed that both the speakers have acquired training from advanced laboratories in USA and UK. She encouraged the participants to learn novel technologies with open mind and not to hesitate to imbibe new knowledge.
