PAU STUDENT ADMITTED TO Ph.D IN USA

LUDHIANA,

Ms Gurlaz Kaur, Senior Research Fellow, Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been admitted to Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology at University of Nevada, Reno (UNR),USA for Fall 2017 with Graduate Research Assistantship carrying a stipend of $25,000/ year. In addition, she will receive a tuition and fee waiver, and a covered health insurance by the University. She will work for her doctorate with Dr Andrew Nuss, Assistant Professor, UNR, focusing research on neurohormonal signaling in insects of agricultural importance. Particularly, she will be testing novel chemistries targeting Neuropeptide F for the management of insect-pests.

Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture; and Dr P.K. Chhuneja, Head, Department of Entomology, congratulated the PAU student for this achievement and wished her all success ahead.

Ms Gurlaz has pursued M.Sc. in Entomology and B.Sc. in Agriculture (Hons) from PAU. She is a recipient of Dr Gurmail Singh Dhaliwal Gold Medal for being the best all round entomology student in her batch. She has also won two national poster presentation awards and a research fellowship by Bharti Field Fresh Pvt. Foods Ltd. during her M.Sc. She has 13 research publications to her credit including full research articles, short communications and a monograph.
