The Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the election officials and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot after a petition accused him of election malpractices in the 2018 assembly elections.

Petitioner Aarti Gautam, whose nomination papers were rejected over issues of domicile, also challenged the returning officer’s decision in her petition. Gautam had filed her nomination from Sardarpur, a seat considered Gehlot’s and which he eventually won, as a candidate from Bhartiya Yuva Shakti Party.

In her petition filed on January 24, 2019, Gautam claimed that Gehlot’s promises of farm loan waivers, also mentioned in the Congress party’s election manifesto, would amount to “allurement” and was illegal.

“This is the greatest corrupt practice as it amounts to a corruption and giving rise allurement to the voters, which is illegal. Thus the election is to be set aside,” the petitioner said.
