The Indian community in Chile and Friends of India held a cultural programme in Santiago on Sunday evening in honour of President Ram Nath Kovind.

Addressing the gathering the President said the Indian community in Chile is representative and a successful envoy of India. He said in the world of today, the messages of Guru Nanak and Mahatma Gandhi have become increasingly important.

The president also said that different measures have been undertaken by the government of India to ensure a better life for its citizen.

The president mentioned India’s successes in the field of science and technology. He said that the government of India was fully committed to it’s overseas citizens.

He asked Indian citizens living abroad to communicate with their children in their mother tongues to maintain their roots with India.

Earlier, the president offered flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Santiago Chile. The area is known as plaza de la India or India square. The president along with the first lady offered floral tributes to the father of the nation. Ram Bhajans were sung on the occasion.
