About 200 protesters marched through the streets of Barcelona to call for independence and denounce action by both the Spanish and Catalan governments.

The peaceful demonstrators marched to Sant Jaume Square to Catalan government headquarters and set fire to an effigy of Catalan Interior Affairs chief, Miquel Buch who manages the police force.

The run-up to the vote for a new parliament has seen a series of big demonstrations.Opinion polls show the 10th November parliamentary election is likely to be as inconclusive as a previous ballot in April.
