Completion of SYL canal would spell doom for Punjab farmers

The Senior Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee leader and Cabinet Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today dared the leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal to prove its credentials to Punjab as well as its people by stoutly opposing the anti-Punjab statement of the Finance Minister, Haryana and newly appointed Punjab BJP incharge, Captain Abhimanyu Singh in which the latter has said that Haryana would complete the SYL canal.

Terming the statement of Captain Abhimanyu as totally inimical to the interests of Punjab, S. Randhawa questioned that how can a person who is making such a demand work in the political environment of Punjab. The PPCC leader showing the mirror of truth to akalis said that the SYL canal would spell doom for the farming sector of Punjab and would render a large part of its soil barren.

Launching a scathing attack on the akali leadership, S. Randhawa said that the SAD is selling interests of Punjab for narrow political gains by still being partners with the party which has undertaken such a dastardly step.

Making it absolutely clear that the Congress would oppose Captain Abhimanyu tooth and nail, S. Randhawa asked akalis to come out clean on whether they are willing to be collaborators with such a party whose leader is hell bent on sounding death knell for the farmers of Punjab whose interests the SAD so loudly proclaims to champion.
