Trying to dilute the impact of the Congress’ Monday ‘Bharat Bandh’ on escalating fuel prices, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday night announced 4 per cent reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel.

During her ongoing ‘Gaurav Yatra’ at Rawatsar in Hanumangarh, the Chief Minister told a public rally that the state government would bring down the fuel prices by Rs 2 to 2.5 per litre.
Meeting this demand of masses in the state suffering from rising prices would put a financial burden to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore on state exchequer, she said.

“The Congress which emerged on the eve of Assembly polls never had any issue to talk except for creating rumours and misleading public. Nor the Opposition members could speak in the Assembly,” she commented when reminded of Congress’ ‘Bharat Bandh’ tomorrow.

In Jaipur, Finance Secretary Praveen Gupta told The Tribune presently the VAT on petrol and diesel is 30 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively.
