Rajnath Singh promises good governance, stability

On his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the imposition of Governor’s rule, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the Centre was committed to bring peace, stability and prosperity in the trouble-torn state. He also promised accountability, transparency and good governance in the system.

The Home Minister, who arrived on a two-day visit along with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, held extended discussions with Governor NN Vohra here on Thursday to review security situation, yatra management, implementation of development programmes and governance issues.

The Governor’s Adviser K Vijay Kumar informed the Home Minister about the overall law and order situation and framework put in place by the security forces for the ongoing Amarnath yatra. The Chief Secretary presented an update on the implementation status of major projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme, particularly AIIMS, IITs, IIMs, ring roads at Jammu and Srinagar, and other major development projects being executed by Central and state agencies.

The Governor assured the Home Minister that the state administration was taking every step required to ensure against any delay in the implementation of developmental and welfare programmes, eradication of corruption, and redressal of public grievances.

“It is our firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state,” said Rajnath in a series of tweets after the meeting. He said peace and normalcy were the basis of a developed and prosperous state of J&K.

“The dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir will be realised when there is peace and normalcy in the state,” he said.

Rajnath said the government was committed to take all possible measures for a good governance in the state. “We are committed to take all possible measures that will bring accountability, transparency and good governance in the system,” he said.

Rajnath maintained that the Central government, with renewed focus on good governance and development, was looking forward “to kindle new aspirations and hopes among the people” of the state.
